October 2020: Covid-19

As a member of the British Acupuncture Council, I already take your safety very seriously. Registered members must ensure scrupulous hygiene and cleanliness of our work-place at all times. My clinic is now Covid-19 secure – complying with the government’s guidelines on managing risk.

To continue with this compliance, we need to make some adjustments in managing face to face sessions.

Although the list seems daunting, it’s mostly common sense, and I’m confident that we can get used to this new way of working together.

Please take some time to read through, and feel free to give me a call or drop me a mail if you have any questions or concerns.

  • For new clients, I will be conducting a telephone consultation prior to the treatment session. This will help us to reduce face to face contact time. I will also send you a copy of my consent forms so that you can complete them and send them back to me ahead of the appointment.

  • All clients will be asked to complete a Covid-19 assessment form prior to each appointment. I will send a copy of this form to you via email when we book the appointment. I cannot treat you if:

    • You exhibit any of the main symptoms, which can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/

    • Have been in recent contact with someone who has a confirmed Covid-19 diagnosis,

    • Have travelled from abroad and are in your quarantine period

    • You have been instructed by the NHS test and trace service that you must self-isolate

  • I will be allowing more time between patients to ensure that I can fully disinfect the room.

  • Please help me by arriving promptly (but not early) for your appointment time, and please arrive alone.

  • Please limit the number of possessions you bring with you.

  • You will be asked to wash or sanitise your hands upon arrival at the clinic.

  • I will also take your temperature upon arrival using a contactless thermometer. If your temperature is elevated, I cannot treat you. You will be asked to return home and self-isolate.

  • I will be asking you to wear a face mask for the duration your appointment. Please do bring your own. If you do forget, I will have some disposable masks available to purchase for £1 each.

  • I will be taking payment for your appointment by bank transfer only. No cash please. I will send you my bank details ahead of the appointment, or you can transfer on the day.

What to do if you develop symptoms of Covid-19 following your appointment:

If you develop symptoms of Covid-19 within 48 hours of your acupuncture appointment, you should notify me immediately. You should register for a Covid test straight away, and I will ask you to please notify me of the results. My ability to work is contingent on your test results.

Similarly, if I develop symptoms of Covid-19 within 48 hours of your appointment, I will notify you and I will be obligated to provide your name and contact details to the NHS test and trace service.

Treatments for clinically vulnerable patients:

The NHS have identified groups of people who are at a higher risk of complications from Covid-19.

This does not mean that you cannot have acupuncture treatment, but I do need to make you aware of the risks of being in close contact in a clinical environment.

Please check whether you are on the vulnerable list, and let me know when you are booking your appointment so that we can discuss and take any necessary extra precautions: https://digital.nhs.uk/coronavirus/shielded-patient-list

I will update this information as the situation changes – so please do check back from time to time.

I’m looking forward to working with you!
